We are currently have a unique opportunity for a world class Human Resources professional to provide leadership for the People, Organization, and Human Resources efforts for the Healthcare business unit. Reporting to the Healthcare & Science SVP of Human Resources & Communications, the Vice President of Human Resources is a strategic and visible role and part of the executive leadership team. This position is critical to continue the organizational transformation that is underway and linking the new corporate culture and employees to further enable Healthcare & Science to meet its operational and strategic targets. This position will be located in Ann Arbor, MI and responsibilities include yet are not limited to:
  • Partnering with Healthcare business unit executives to develop and implement business unit and organizational strategies and plans;
  • Becoming a member of the Healthcare & Science HR leadership team responsible for creating and driving an effective people strategy, organization model, talent development strategy, and engaged culture;
  • Driving global expansion of a largely US centric business by assessing organization capacity and managing acquisitions;
  • Promoting the talent agenda for the business units; ensuring that the business unit leaders have an effective development program and developing talent at all levels, as well as ensuring that appropriate succession plans are in place for key roles;
  • Ensuring that compensation policies are in place to attract and retain key talent, and are in alignment with SBU and corporate programs and policies;
  • Developing an effective employee value proposition; ensuring the use of best practice approaches and tools to attract the right talent for the business units;
  • Ensuring that line leaders are effectively and proactively managing staff performance; facilitating appropriate response to serious performance issues;
  • Developing the appropriate HR organizational model for the Healthcare business unit and in line with the Corporate and SBU HR service delivery model;
    • Managing HR staff to ensure that managers are provided the right level of support and that HR programs and processes are effectively implemented; and
    • Identifying key developmental opportunities and aligning workload distribution for all direct reports in order to facilitate professional development needs;
  • Structuring and monitoring people related metrics and management information for the Healthcare organization; and
  • Providing ongoing support to line executives by serving as "sounding board" in both a business and people related capacity;
    • Utilizing high level consulting skills to coach and provide feedback on leadership direction and style; and
    • Understanding the need to challenge or "push back" with executive team, without damaging day-to-day rapport and working relationships.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree required. Graduate degree preferred;
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive business/human resources generalist experience including recruitment, organizational development/change management, compensation, employment law, and employee relations;
  • Minimum of 5 years in an HR executive/leadership role, ideally on a global or multi-country basis;
  • Acquisition and due diligence experience;
  • Experience managing and leading fast-paced, complex and large-scale change programs (e.g., business transformation, rightsizing, outsourcing, acquisitions and divestments across geographies);
  • Strong business acumen: understands the key financial drivers and dynamics related to growth and revenue goals of an organization;
  • Demonstrated high level of personal creditability;
  • Excellent management skills including developing and mentoring staff;
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and establish 'quick" rapport with all levels of the organization;
  • Strong consultative style with proven experience supporting senior executives;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity;
  • Ability and willingness to challenge decisions and coach while maintaining long term relationships;
  • Strong project management and conflict resolution skills with the ability to deliver results with limited resources;
  • Proven oral and written communication abilities with the demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of sensitive and confidential issues;
  • Ability to lead presentations and discussions with high level executives; and
  • Ability to travel from 25% to 35% as required by the needs of the business.
