Job Description
Job Summary: The Controller is responsible for the daily management of all parent and affiliate cash and accounting records including cash receipts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, budgets, and forecasting. This includes ensuring internal control procedures are in place while providing support through sound management and business decisions. The Controller provides high-level support to the Chief Financial Officer.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Provide direction, oversight, and ensure compliance with all aspects of accounting and financial reporting.
  2. Establish appropriate processes to ensure financial statements are in conformity with US GAAP.
  3. Lead analysis of technical accounting issues. Provide well-supported and documented interpretation of GAAP literature, identify relevant changes in accounting guidance and monitor processes for compliance with accounting literature.
  4. Coordinate the development of accounting analysis and explanation of financial & budget results.
  5. Provide leadership to the annual audit process and serve as chief liaison for our external auditors.
  6. Maintain accurate workpapers and supporting schedules for the parent organization and all affiliates.
  7. Provide oversight to Construction Accountant to help track development related grant awards and compliance with federal requirements. Support grant budget review and forecasting, also review/maintain all financial reporting for grant agreements.
  8. Maintain department and company budgets.
  9. Coordinate preparation and filing of all required federal, state, and local taxes.
  10. Present financial statements, budgets, and other relevant financial information to subsidiary boards.
  11. Develop the accounting department and team members.
  12. Handle confidential information and maintain and uphold confidentiality.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
  • Seven or more years of progressive work experience in an accounting role.
  • CPA designation required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP/technical accounting, corporate taxation, partnerships, and the structuring of an internal control environment.
  • Real estate and CDFI experience preferred.
  • 3+ years supervisory experience leading a team.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Chief Financial Officer

Supervisory Relationship: Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, Accounting Associate

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.

Travel Required: 5%
