About the Role
General Dynamics Land Systems Co-op Program is hiring for Rotation A, for a July 2024 or Jan 2025 start.

The engineering co-op will perform various responsibilities depending on the organization in which they are placed. In addition, there are optional disciplines in Engineering that the co-op will have the opportunity to be exposed to.

The primary functional areas for rotation can include:
Cybersecurity
Vetronics/Software/Lethality
Mechanical Engineering
Systems Engineering
Project Engineering
Logistics Engineering

Responsibilities to Anticipate for this Role
Cybersecurity & Battle Management
  • Support the platform cyber group with various projects, which may include evaluation of emerging technologies, cryptographic capabilities, and data encryption techniques.
  • Support schematic diagram development for projects and conduct analysis of design from cybersecurity perspective.
  • Develop system cybersecurity requirements and coordinate with systems engineering team for inclusion into low-level design documents.
  • Conduct on-vehicle testing and evaluation of communications equipment and software.
  • Perform requirements analyses.

Vetronics/Software/Lethality
  • Perform software requirements analysis.
  • Develop software preliminary and detail design utilizing software design tools as specified by department standards.
  • Develop code to implement software design, code development shall conform to department standards and procedures.
  • Develop test procedures and perform unit/functional test on the executable software.
  • Perform hardware/software integration.
  • Debug software issues discovered throughout multiple testing phases.
  • Develop and maintain software in accordance with the project and department development processes.
  • Prepare status reports to management and support design/code reviews.
  • Interface with other departments and business units, including Systems Engineering and Quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Mechanical Engineering
  • Provide support to various projects by conducting analysis & design, drawing mark-ups, tolerance stacks and source data assistance, writing material procurement requests and/or shop requests, chasing parts and participating in design hardware fit-checks, report writing and other general engineering activities
  • Provide support to prototype and production vehicle build and follow-up.
  • Troubleshoot and redesign activities
  • Support development of management materials including spreadsheets, database maintenance, presentations, and basic structural analysis
  • Assist in various engineering analyses.
  • Coordinate the collection and tracking of various parameters such as subsystems component weights and thermal loads lists.
  • Chart and analyze various test data and labor hour projections.
  • Assist in developing engineering schedules and program plans, setting up department project reviews, compilation, and tracking of resulting issues.
  • Assist engineers in the thermal labs.
  • Assist in controls design/development for thermal hardware.
  • Assist on the problem resolution of field, logistic and manufacturing issues

Systems Engineering
  • Obtain exposure to requirements, architecture, specialty engineering, integration, and test activities/products for varies tracked programs.
  • Participate in team meetings, learning system engineering planning, technical performance measures, and conducting milestone events and checkpoints.
  • Review system level requirements and assess compliance by reviewing test data or analysis data.
  • Generate System level architectures.
  • Import CAD geometry to support multi-body dynamics modeling.
  • Perform data reduction of test data and/or perform signal processing/filtering of analytical data
  • Assist with the development of mass property allocations and estimates, verification of mass properties, and documentation and reports for system and subsystem level projects.
  • Assist with analyses and artifact development
  • Perform requirements analysis for system, subsystem, and LRU-level electronics in C4I related systems, with a focus on cybersecurity
  • Analyze, produce, and compile cybersecurity artifacts for risk management framework and/or cross-domain solution approval process

Logistics Test & Evaluation Engineering
  • Support performing various tasks such as database development and customization, SQL, MS Access, test data analysis, statistical analysis of the data, gathering technical data and creating excel files and assisting in presentation material preparation.
  • Perform environmental and physical testing on GDLS products.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to help develop test methodologies.
  • Prepare test reports/test plans as needed.
  • Write and develop requirements for design specifications.
  • Provide administrative and technical support to team, as needed.
  • Assist in conducting detailed analyses, assessments, and trade-offs of evolving and approved designs to identify, define and document system support requirements.

Project Engineering
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating project schedules
  • Assist in ensuring on time completion of project tasks within budget, and update manpower forecast, and status reporting to leadership.
  • Collaborate on continuous improvement efforts and support to engineering proposal management while acquiring skills to facilitate proposal efforts.

Quality & Product Lifecycle Management
  • Analyze material requisitions and apply quality requirements
  • Review vendor acceptance test procedures and related data to determine product acceptability
  • Work with cognizant aspects of engineering, supply chain management, and the vendor to resolve any identified discrepancies.
  • Review logistics source data and identify and resolve issues
  • Perform task review, report, and resolve issues with the logistics community.
  • Understand and participate in logistics metrics and trend reporting.
  • Participate in vehicle testing and checkout activities on vehicle platforms to identify issues and develop a better understanding of our end vehicle products.
  • Assist with test procedure development and results reporting.
  • Participate in calibration recall and vendor shipment activities.
  • Be involved in different aspects of software development
  • Learn product lifecycle management and support the engineering change process and support the analysis and updating of data.

Qualifications Sought
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
  • Must currently be attending Kettering University as a full-time student.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Preferred - GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be a U.S. Person. (i.e. a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.)
  • Must successfully pass standard pre-employment screens and must provide an official university transcript before their first day of employment.
  • Must demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Some travel (<5%) may be required.
