PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Senior Market Analyst will provide advanced high-value information, forecasts, predictions, and analysis of developments and trends in both the crude oil and refining markets to inform and influence our short and long-term planning and decisioning. This role will drive unbiased, outside-in thinking and be viewed as the go-to source within the business for relevant and actionable information and analysis relating to these key market segments.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Market Analyst will possess a strong understanding of the asphalt and crude oil market and will support sophisticated forecasting, budgeting and financial analysis.

  • Identify trends in the North American and global crude oil markets that will impact the availability, quality and cost of asphalt for our business.
  • Synthesize information and data (both forecasted and historical) on crude production, transportation, quality and cost into relevant analysis.
  • Monitor and identify market intelligence in the North American and global refining industry and cogently articulate the potential impact of those developments on OC's Asphalt business. This will include topics ranging from investment by refiners to potential changes in the crudes they use to their yield rates.
  • Examine historical price behavior, including correlations with other products in the petroleum complex, to develop medium and long-range forecast scenarios for asphalt cost.
  • Gather the data necessary to perform forecasting analytics and work with others both inside and outside the company to validate conclusions.
  • Well-versed in the strategy of the Roofing & Asphalt business and understand the way Asphalt both creates value and manages risk.
  • Successfully work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues in Roofing & Asphalt; Operations, Sourcing, S&T, Finance, and Supply Chain to name a few
  • Publish regular work products that share developments in markets with key constituencies including, but not limited to, OC senior executives and customers.

ADVANCED REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monthly coating flux financial reporting regarding realized cost, forecast, and inflation aimed at providing Roofing division leadership with a timely and accurate gauge of asphalt input costs.
  • Successful execution of the monthly process requires an effective partnership with multiple teams: Supply Chain, Sourcing, Manufacturing Finance (Asphalt & Roofing), Finance division leadership.
  • Providing monthly guidance to Roofing Finance team regarding Risks and Opportunities to support scenario planning for the year ahead.
  • Collaborating with Asphalt Commercial Finance leader on analyzing and advancing the Cost Absorption metric that aims to quantify the leverage value of Trumbull Asphalt within the enterprise.
  • Gathering, analyzing, and interpreting commodity information available in the financial markets that is valuable to Owens Corning to develop forecasts, design the supply portfolio and define the business strategy.
  • Assisting in optimizing working capital tied up in Trumbull Asphalt raw material inventory through continuous analysis of market conditions, costs, demand, and inventory levels.
  • Advising Investor Relations on Asphalt costs over various planning horizons to address and anticipate questions from the investor community; prepare for quarterly analyst calls.
  • Serve as a reliable, credible partner to Asphalt Commercial Finance team, Asphalt Commercial Business team, and other stakeholders to support the mission of Trumbull Asphalt and Owens Corning Roofing.
  • Manage relationships with external consultants to introduce outside opinions and market intelligence

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Business, Science, Engineering or other quantitative discipline
  • MBA preferred

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong analytical skills, with an emphasis on statistics
  • Experience and comfort working with large amounts of data to produce insightful analysis
  • Significant interaction with senior executive audiences with a track record of effective written and oral communication
  • Expert user of Microsoft Power Platform to develop and build business solutions
  • Excellent knowledge of crude oil & products fundamentals and markets
