Job Summary
Under the direction of the Sales Manager - Automotive, the Product Application Engineer is responsible for product recommendation and support for our fastener product line.

Essential Functions:

  • Technical expert for fastener product selection and recommendation for customers, which will lead to maximizing fastener content on vehicle platforms.
  • Ability to review customer drawings, 3D models, and specifications to determine ideal product recommendations.
  • Using market intelligence, work closely with product management to determine fastener product gaps and propose new products to fill the gaps.
  • Provide fastener product training for customers and sales teams.
  • Key contributor to fastener product specification materials, including literature, line cards, microsite applications, and sample boards.
  • Complete understanding of competitor fastener product offerings.
  • Work with product management teams to identify product solutions and gaps in our product portfolio. Communicate end user needs to product management.
  • Collaborate with HT global division companies to ensure we are supporting the global strategy.
  • Prepare formal customer proposals on large-scale program opportunities (competitor replacements, new platforms)
  • Ability to develop models and new concepts using 3D CAD software (CATIA)
  • Ability to work with customers and their 3D environment to recommend solutions.
  • Conduct customer site visits.
  • Support Team members to locate product information and understand HT terminology and processes.

Other Functions

  • Attend industry trade shows and customer events to assist with product recommendations.
  • Communicate with the Program Planning Analyst on large-volume future part opportunities.

Success in this role will require:

  • Understand product pricing and positioning to determine the best option to meet customer needs and maximize HellermannTyton's revenue and profitability.
  • Work with new and current part product management to proactively understand the product portfolio.
  • Technical aptitude to analyze customer needs and translate them into viable alternatives.
  • Ability to articulate optimal solutions to customers in a convincing manner.
  • Vehicle platform-oriented focus.
  • Effective time management of key projects.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Engineering degree preferred or application engineering experience.
  • Fastener manufacturing experience is highly preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience in a related role.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially with Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and adequate insurance.
  • Familiarity with CATIA software
  • Location in SE Michigan
