Job Description

The Community Center Bus Driver drives The SAL bus for school pick-ups and drop-offs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for driving The SAL bus for daily school pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • Responsible for seeing that the bus is kept clean after each day.
  • Responsible for seeing that the bus is filled with gas and ready each day.
  • Check oil, water, and transmission fluid weekly.
  • Aware of things that may need to be fixed communicating this to the maintenance person and the Community Center Director.
  • Must be aware of and follow all the state of Michigan and Salvation Army safety precautions and procedures.
  • Must be aware of and follow all the state of Michigan and federal DOT laws and regulations.
  • Must be on time.
  • Ready to perform to the best of their abilities in all areas of the program.
  • Use the outreach opportunity to its fullest potential.
  • Aware of the mission statement of The Salvation Army and make every effort to be a positive representative of The Salvation Army, both on and off site.
  • Ability and willingness to promote and comply with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army
  • Must be professional at all times.
  • Requests for time off need to be submitted in writing two weeks in advance.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age. Good driving record and a valid CDL license with passenger and air brake endorsements. Some formal work with youth preferred.

Reasoning Ability:

  • To distinguish between positive and negative situations, to decide how to approach a problem and resolve it appropriately within The Salvation Army policies and state of Michigan Childcare Licensing

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid driver's license; CDL with passenger endorsement preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Must possess a Michigan DOT Medical Card.
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces in a classroom setting and outdoor setting.
  • The ability to quickly see and respond to all situations appropriately within The Salvation Army policies and state of Michigan Childcare Licensing

Work Environment:

  • Includes work in an outdoor setting which requires physical strength and stamina to endure heat, cold and other conditions.

  • Must be highly organized, motivated, and a self-starter.
