General Responsibilities

Under the direction of a Sr. Laboratory Manager and/or Machine Shop Supervisor, the primary responsibility of this position is to setup and fabricate test fixtures as well as weld prototype shock absorber components using in-house MIG and TIG welders and jigs.

Job Responsibilities

Primary role of this position is to support activities of the Suspension Business Unit and Design Engineering groups by performing combinations of the following activities:

  • Extensive welding experience is a must. Use MIG / TIG welding techniques to fabricate prototype shock absorber components, assemblies and various test fixtures.
  • Perform machining and fabrication of test fixtures and prototype shock absorber samples using vertical mill, lathe, band saw, drill press, shear and brake. CNC experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Be able to work in both a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work with remote / offsite test requestors.
  • Key job requirements: mechanical fabrication skills, MIG / TIG welding, machining.
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings and GD&T.
  • Willingness to learn and enhance existing skills.
  • Must be computer-savvy, proficient with Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Have experience coordinating and facilitating several tasks.
  • Be able to lift up to 75 lbs., demonstrate normal range of motion and manual dexterity.

Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required as are strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with PCs and application software, such as MS Office tools is also required.

Education: Possess a High School diploma or equivalent degree (2-year Associates Degree is preferred).

Experience: Have a minimum of 5-7 years of applicable experience in a machine shop environment.

Job level determined by various factors such as organization size, responsibility, career stage, and capabilities.

Working conditions:

Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Must be able to demonstrate normal range of motion and manual dexterity.
