We are looking for a Transportation Construction Observer to join our Construction team to improve infrastructure in Metro Detroit areas. Candidates must have a high school diploma and a minimum of three years related experience of MDOT or MDOT Local Agency Program inspection utilizing FieldManager/Book. HMA and concrete experience, a thorough understanding of MDOT-let contract requirements and a valid driver's license are also required. SESC/Storm Water Operator, Concrete and Density testing certification is preferred. Candidates must be self-motivated and able to work well with others.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct field inspections to verify Contract requirements on Construction of Roadways and Bridges
  • Prepare Inspector's Daily Reports in FieldBook.
  • Organize and maintain construction documentation in ProjectWise.
  • Act as the on-site liaison with client and community
  • Interact and communicate effectively with on-site construction contractors.
  • Develop an understanding of plans and specifications.
  • Assist Project Manager with contract requirements.
  • Prepare forms and other paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Attend seminars and/or training courses as required.
  • Maintain excellent client relations.
  • Understand the public health and safety requirements and be fully trained in the proper safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • 3+ years of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and concrete construction experience required.
  • A thorough understanding of MDOT-let contract requirements
  • Storm Water Operator, Concrete and Density testing certification (SESC) is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills required for document creation and record-keeping.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. periodically.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to pass a background investigation and drug testing.
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
