Job Description

Position Summary: The Camp Counselor guides and ensures the safety of children as they engage in camp activities. They assist with activity planning and receive special training to fully support kids' needs during their stay at the camp. Works with children, co-workers, and other staff to provide a safe and beneficial summer day camp experience in a Christian environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for a small group of youth ages 5-14 on site and on field trips.
  • Be aware of and follow all safety precautions and procedures. This includes never being solely responsible for your group.
  • Guide group or individuals in activity plans.
  • Responsible for the implementation of program plans as assigned by the director / assistant director.
  • Willingness to participate and take a leadership role in all planned activities such as Bible study, swimming, group games, crafts, and music and more.
  • Help with the maintenance of all areas used by the day camp.
  • Conform to the weekly schedule and attend all staff meetings.
  • Responsible for the care and well-being of program participants, including implement emergency procedures.
  • Identify and meet individual camper needs
  • Monitor campers during both large and small group activities
  • Work with the appropriate staff in solving problems between campers.
  • Inform the Summer Day Camp Director of any staff or camper problems.
  • Work with Day Camp Director/Assistant Director to plan and execute daily activities.
  • Serve lunch and snacks as needed.
  • Recognize and provide opportunities for group interaction, problem solving, and decision making
  • Complete all paperwork and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma / GED preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Previous experience working with youth

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Some knowledge or training and education in food handling and food service operations

Computer Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of computer systems
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office 365 (preferred)

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Current First Aid / CPR certification, or ability to be certified within 30 days
