Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

The major function of this position is to provide leadership and direction for the Health Plan accounting and financial reporting functions including financial reporting (both internal and external), general accounting, internal controls, and tax reporting; such that these areas are able to successfully support the PHP mission, vision and strategies in support of the Controller. In addition responsible for assisting in variance analysis of financial statements, assisting in budget preparation.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • Responsible for the preperation of the monthly internal GAAP financial statements.
  • Responsible for the preperation of the annual and quarterly statutory reports; including determining GAAP to STAT entries.
  • Assists with the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers in accordance with general and statutory accounting principles
  • Participates in the financial analysis of operational results and forecasts.
  • Assists in the evaluation of internal control and accounting processes and procedures.
  • Assists with audits; internal, external, and regulatory.
  • Assists with various tax reporting to the state and federal government.
  • Gathers information and prepares responses to quarterly and year-end questions from governmental and regulatory agencies.
  • Handles all aspects of Insurance/Reinsurance accounting. Files claims monthly with Reinsurer.

Accounts for Pharmacy Rebates for both GAAP and STAT.

Job Requirements
General Requirements
Work Experience Minimum four years of experience which includes experience with financial statement preparation and overall monthly closing process .
Education Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
Specialized Knowledge and Skills Good understanding of GAAP reporting and advanced financial statement knowledge. Ability to generate a complete and accurate set of financial statements. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and advanced projects as assigned, without assistance Proficiency with spreadsheets Proficiency with automated accounting systems Strong oral and written communication skills is required in order to discuss complicated or highly technical information. Good understanding of STAT and regulatory reporting preferred
