About the Role

In this role, you will be responsible for driving the Software Factory strategy and culture across all of Harman Automotive to improve the Software engineering continuously. In brief, A Software Factory is an integrated set of tooling, services, data, and processes that enable engineers to plan, build, test, adaptively release, and/or operate and manage the software. You will lead a team of delivery experts to transform the engineering organization into a cloud-based design, development, and test factory. This role will work with the SBU product and project teams to utilize and implement a Software Factory approach, with a high degree of mastery and consistency. This team will also be responsible for looking externally to the industry to evaluate best practices for modern software development and delivery, of state-of-the-art technology products.

Your Team

This leader will be responsible for a team of 8 direct reports.


What You Will Do

  • Evaluate industry operating model benchmarks and collaborate with SBU Engineering Excellence and technology leaders to define implementation roadmaps.

  • Lead a cross-functional team of engineers, architects, and technology leaders with expertise in building cloud-based software design, development, simulation, and testing methods.

  • Challenge, motivate, support, and hold accountable SBU product and project teams to adapt to new operating model initiatives (processes, tools, capabilities).

  • Partner with SBU engineering excellence, delivery, and domain leadership to define a shared enterprise-level software engineering strategy, test methodologies, and models, and drive full adoption and utilization by the product and project engineering teams.

  • Drive results and track effectiveness with performance metrics, targets, and outlook to drive continuous improvements for Automotive Engineering

  • Cultivate and grow engineering excellence concepts into a mature state of work (processes, tools, capabilities) for implementation readiness.

  • Collaborate with Automotive Services to leverage operating model initiatives to build software practices as a service.

  • Ensure that the interests of engineering stakeholders including Manufacturing, Digital Twin, Divisional Technology, Procurement, and Customer Groups are represented in implementing enterprise engineering operating models.

What You Need

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or equivalent

  • 10+ years of related technical experience

  • 5+ years in leadership of global teams in an automotive environment

  • Must have proven experience building cloud-based environments for development and testing environment

  • Hands-on and expert Knowledge and experience with Linux, Cloud Platforms (Azure preferred), and infra-automation such as Terraform, Docker Compose, GitOps, and shell scripting.

  • Deep understanding of software development processes in the automotive industry including Continuous Delivery and virtual simulation.

  • Experience implementing cloud-based development and testing environments

  • Experience in building up and maintaining a team of highly qualified experts

  • Experience in defining, monitoring, and acting on KPIs to drive improvements

  • Experience in consulting with and advising a distributed global large-scale engineering organization

  • Ability to articulate vision and influence decision-making outcomes with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and customers

  • Radiates a mindset of continuous improvements in engineering execution methods and tools

  • Ability to drive the application of software engineering standards in multiple vertical engineering departments

  • Ability to drive the application of software engineering standards in multiple vertical engineering departments, including application or e-commerce development and embedded software development

What is Nice to Have

  • Prior experience in a strategy consulting firm with automotive customers

  • Hands-on experience designing, building, securing, and managing Kubernetes on the cloud at scale.

What Makes You Eligible

  • Be willing to travel up to 30%, domestic and international travel

  • Be willing to work in the Novi, MI office (hybrid - must be local to Metro Detroit)
