*Start and end dates are negotiable

Hours and days will vary based on work schedule. At least 400 hours of work are available throughout the duration of the internship between the office and onsite projects. Hybrid and remote will be involved.

2024 Schedule:

  • Short term employment opportunities lasting less than 2 weeks or part-time position assignments available from May - October
    • June 10 - 24 - Must be able to travel and work in Grand Rapids, MI from June 12-17
    • June 19-July 10 - Must be able to travel and work in Midland, MI from June 2-July 1
    • July 10-24 - Must be able to travel and work in Metro Detroit area from July 12-15 and July 19-20

SUMMARY

The purpose of this internship is to provide hands on, real world experience in the sustainability industry through involvement in active programming, business operations, customer relations, sales and marketing.

Primary educational tools the internship will provide:

  • Introductory knowledge of how the sustainability industry operates with specific areas of interest including waste diversion, carbon and climate impact
  • On-site experience at live events to execute event sustainability programming
  • Collaborative work environment to manage customer accounts, business operations and creating sustainability strategies for clients
  • Communication skills working across teams at Schupan and within customer relations
  • Collaborative work experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Organizational skills in planning and executing complex client programs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform primary oversight of three event accounts
  • Work collaboratively on two non-event related sustainability projects
  • Oversee two areas of daily operations for the Sustainability business unit
  • On site management of sustainability programs from pre-event set-up, event day execution, and post event tear down.
  • Works collaboratively to communicate with Schupan staff, event staff, vendors, and stakeholders to resolve issues and build a working relationship.
  • Performs all job duties in a friendly, courteous manner and adheres to all safety requirements.
  • Prompt, reliable customer service.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Qualifications

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to work outside in all weather conditions including, but not limited: heat, humidity, cold, snow and rain.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to work a varied work schedule during the event, including early mornings and late nights.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Environment, sustainability degree courses preferred

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally lift, move, or position objects weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Strong desire to provide exceptional customer service.
