SENIOR PRODUCT ENGINEER - AUTOMOTIVE SEATING

SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN

The Role:

Work in a team environment, utilizing engineering and design disciplines, to support Customer timing and expectations. Work with 3D CAD models (feature based, UGNX, CATEIA or other) for product design and ensure design meets all Customer design guidelines for automotive seating. Complete hand calculations, Sim-Solid, Enventive models or other similar FEA/calculation tools to develop and confirm engineering or product design. Work with product and manufacturing engineering teams, advanced manufacturing, designers, SMEs, Customer engineering and studio to ensure product appearance, design and manufacturing feasibilities are met.

Overview of working at Lear in the JIT Seating Division:

  • Interaction with the other disciplines and commodity groups within Lear on a regular basis ensuring successful development and launch phases. These groups include, but not limited to, Sales, Program Management, Purchasing, Test Lab, E-Systems, etc
  • Frequent interaction with the customer and supply base starting in the Planning phase all the way through Post Launch.
  • Business travel to both Lear and customer manufacturing and development facilities as required throughout the different phases of program development.
  • Ability to strategically align cross functional team interaction.
  • Integration and validation of all components into a seating system that satisfies legal and customer requirements

Your Qualifications:

  • Automotive seating experience, minimum 3+ years.
  • Strong experience with plastics, foam and structure related to seating
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes related to different materials such as plastic injection molding, metal stamping & foam mold, and with an understanding of materials specifications, minimum 5+ years.
  • Confirms manufacturability, design for assembly, and integration knowledge to parts, subsystem designs and vehicle integration.
  • Perform appropriate studies/alternatives/packaging/layouts and participate in recommendations to program direction.
  • DFMEA creation
  • Strong problem-solving skills utilizing well-organized analytical processes
  • Knowledge in usage of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Develop, refine and finalize design criteria and typical sections
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of GD&T principles in product designs.
  • Good communication skills and maintain solid working relationships.
  • Exhibit a high level of creativity and initiative, requiring minimal design direction.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Associate Degree with Mechanical background is a required.

Bonus If You Have:

  • Ability to apply 3D GD&T (PMI) to CAD models is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the PLM system, data banking standards and DR work requests is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
