AITX is offering an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Specialist, and we invite you to be part of our innovative team. This role can be performed remotely or hybrid at one of our office locations in Chicago, IL, St Louis, MO, or Maumee, OH.

Job Summary

In this role, you will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of rail activities in a high paced environment, providing comprehensive support to North American railcar repair shops who repair the AITX railcar fleet. Your responsibilities will encompass diverse tasks such as overseeing lease returns, efficiently managing car reassignments, monitoring, and tracking the maintenance of railcars within dedicated shops. It is essential for the successful execution of this position that you possess the ability to conduct research, allowing you to delve deeper into complex mechanical challenges and devise solutions in cooperation with the engineering teams. A pivotal aspect of this role involves actively collaborating with the AITX Customer Service and Sales departments, facilitating a smooth workflow, and ensuring exceptional service delivery. Your contributions in this multifaceted role will play a crucial role in the overall success and efficiency of the AITX railcar fleet operations.

Job Duties

  • Obtain, audit, and approve cost estimates for railcar repairs from repair shops for AITX owned rail cars.
  • Review and maintain repair facility inspection records.
  • Coordinate preventative and repair maintenance for the rail fleet.
  • Analyze cost trends from the railcar shops for similar work.
  • Work closely with repair shops for completion of repairs and railcar conversion projects in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with Engineers for repair projects.
  • Research material and commodity compatibility.
  • Be knowledgeable of the AAR and FRA regulatory requirements that impact the repairs of the cars.
  • Be knowledgeable of the quality assurance plan requirements as it pertains to car repairs.

Work Environment

  • Entry-Mid Level Office environment
  • Occasional travel to: Customer locations, railcar repair shops, rail yards

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, logistics or mathematics. Experience with railcar repair billing may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrable ability to use Excel and pivot tables.
  • Knowledge of American Association Railroads (AAR) rules a plus
  • Knowledge of AAR Standards and Practices a plus
