Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Reports to the Director of Optometry. Works collaboratively with the General Manager to ensure each patient receives the best possible care and to maximize office productivity and performance. Works collaboratively with the Ophthalmology Service Chief or Medical Director to promote seamless delivery of eye care to all patients. Coordinates professional staffing and office coverage, develops quality benchmarks, monitors outcomes, develops quality improvement activities, and oversees clinical support staff training.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Work with General Manager to achieve and maintain proper professional staffing levels. This includes oversight of optometrists, optometric assistants, and optometric technicians.

a. Implement programs that will allow for cross training of all professional staff both within the clinical setting and with other intra-office positions.

b. Implement programs for professional staff designed to maintain and enhance clinical skills. This could include the implementation of intra-office seminars or the coordination of global events with other offices.

c. Participate in the hiring, dismissing and disciplining of optometric technicians and contact lens technicians.

2. Collaborate with General Manager to review and modify policies and procedures that are clinically or professionally relevant.

a. When approved by a consensus of the Optometrists in Charge and the Director of Optometry, implements new office protocols. To promote standardization within all clinics, this must be done on a global HFO basis.

b. Attend regularly scheduled meetings with the General Manager to maintain open communication and promote maximum efficiency and productivity within the office

c. Work with General Manager to implement and maintain a plan for quality improvement that includes glasses remakes, insurance verification, and proper coding/billing.

d. Serve as a role model and mentor for other SVC Optometrists.

3. Intra-office O.D. scheduling and coordination of O.D. coverage.

a. Collaborate with General Manager to assess and adjust current and projected clinical staffing requirements

b. Maintain O.D. clinic schedules for their SVC that supports patient scheduling three months into the future

c. Ensure that O.D. schedules are accessible within the POS practice management system and that all uncovered clinic hours are available for coverage

4. Ensure that the clinic is delivering the highest quality eye care.

a. Utilize quality monitors to ensure that the care being delivered is consistent with the contemporary standards of care.

b. Implement quality improvement programs and corrective actions.

5. Implement a program for practice building.

a. Develop new relationships with HF Medical Centers, ERs, and other system entities. Develop new relationships with non- HF entities, if possible, including pharmacies, nursing homes, etc.

b. Maintain existing relationships through scheduled meetings with key individuals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

* Successful completion of the program from a school of optometry.

* Licensed as an Optometrist in the State of Michigan, and a minimum of one year experience.

* Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

* Licensed as an Optometrist in the State of Michigan.

* Must be T.P.A./D.P.A. certified.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in a retail optical environment. Requires evening and weekend hours
