Position Description:

We are looking for a Structural Engineer to join our Water Resources Team to improve infrastructure in our Detroit office. The candidate must be a licensed PE with a bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering and seven or more years of related experience. The candidate must also be self-motivated, work well with others, and have excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills. A flexible hybrid-remote work schedule is available after 90 days of employment.
Typical responsibilities include:
  • Perform Structural analysis and design of heavy civil and underground structures including concrete storage tanks, wastewater treatment facilities, tunnels and drop shafts, retaining walls, braced excavations, foundations, building wall systems, and utility structures
  • Provide technical planning, design and construction support on various wet weather projects that may include combined sewer overflow, collection system, pump station, water, stormwater, and/or other wastewater projects
  • Design for various materials including reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete, steel, aluminum, masonry and FRP
  • Prepare engineering calculations and supporting analysis of alternatives
  • Prepare structural related construction plans and technical specifications
  • Utilize various design software to complete structural analysis
  • Conduct research and development for projects
  • Function as Task Manager to assist Project Manager
  • Coordinate structural design function with Senior Engineers and Project Managers
  • Work with multi-discipline engineering teams
  • Prepare design cost estimates
  • Monitor task budget and progress
  • Conduct on-site inspections as needed
  • Prepare and review scope, budget and schedule for project tasks
  • Attend various meetings including pre-design, plan review, pre-construction, staff, etc.
  • Assist with proposals, marketing, project reports and technical presentations
  • Maintain excellent client relations
  • Maintain a safe working environment
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
Skills/Experience:
  • Minimum of five years of experience
  • Foundation experience to include mat foundations, driven piles, auger-cast piles, caissons and soil/rock anchors
  • Experience with soil and rock mechanics and related design a plus
  • Experience with ACI 350, ACI 318, AISC Steel Manual and the International Building Code
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Structural and foundation design software
  • Excellent technical writing, organizational and communication skills
