Job Description

SUMMARY

Maintains the fleet in safe operational condition by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Repair all motorized equipment.
  2. Make service calls in the field when practical, to avoid towing expenses.
  3. Give priority to the care of tracks and other motor vehicles and trailers. Report to supervisor any mechanical problems and seek recommendation and approval for any work necessary.
  4. Report evidence of excess damage or abuse of equipment by drivers to supervisor.
  5. Perform service and keep records on each truck/vehicle (i.e., oil changes, lubrication, repairs, etc.).
  6. Check trailers for needed repairs as soon as they are pulled in to ensure trailer is ready for use when unloaded. Keep record of trailer repairs, etc.
  7. Check all trucks and forklifts for proper fluid levels at the start of each workday.
  8. When necessary, drive dump truck, forklift, and assist in picking up donations (route tickets or specials).
  9. Maintain neat and orderly work area. The entire area and equipment should be free of grease oil, soiled rages, etc. Waste rags must be kept in fireproof receptacle. Rag receptacle emptied into dump truck in morning (greasy waste should not be put into compactor. Daily the shop area should be cleaned during the last fifteen minutes of each shift. Once weekly the area should be completely cleaned up.
  10. Purchase needed parts using purchase order obtained from supervisor.
  11. Check tires for proper wear and rotation.
  12. Maintain proper care and security of equipment, tools, and parts, locking work area if leaving area.
  13. Control work area so that no unofficial vehicles are repaired on premises and on company time
  14. Take reports on need for repairs from all drivers but commence work only upon instruction and approval of supervisor.
  15. Check radios and make known need for repair to supervisor.
  16. Maintain all vehicles to safe operating level, make sure equipment on vehicles meets legal standards.
  17. In emergencies be willing to work overtime and/or start work early to complete necessary repairs.
  18. Support the mission statement of The Salvation Army

OTHER DUTIES: Other duties as assigned by supervisor or administrator.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
