Custodian/ Floor Team

Cranbrook is actively recruiting for the Custodian/Floor Team position. This position is responsible for the care of all school floors including but not limited to stripping, waxing, buffing, shampooing, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, etc. This is a vehicle and equipment operator position requiring occasional heavy manual lifting and daily use of floor care machines/equipment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

School Session Months (approximately September- June)

  • Maintain all school building floors including hallways, stairs, gyms and lobbies
  • Daily use of walk behind machines
  • Dust mop daily
  • Mop twice per week
  • Upkeeping and cleaning of moldings and trims

School Breaks

  • Stripping, waxing of hard surfaces
  • Use of carpet extractor on hallways, classrooms, offices

Summer Months (approximately June-September)

  • Waxing, buffing of hard surfaces and extraction of carpets campuswide

As needed

  • Perform miscellaneous maintenance duties, e.g., change light bulbs, empty trash, hang decorations, and supply paper towel and tissue dispensers.
  • Pick up debris and litter on grounds.
  • Remove snow and ice from stairs and entranceways to buildings during winter months.
  • Set up furniture/risers for special functions.
  • Must be aware of special procedures to use when encountering suspected asbestos containing material to avoid personal exposure, contamination of job site, and exposure of facility occupants to asbestos.

Other duties as assigned

  • Loading, delivery and unloading, and set up and tear down of materials, equipment, and furnishings as directed.
  • May be assigned to carry out regular housekeeping duties.
  • Keeps equipment clean, orderly, and in good repair, and communicates vehicle and equipment repair to supervisor.
  • Washes vehicles as requested by supervisor.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and polices regulating safety and load limits.
  • Communicates progress, problems, and other issues to supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience operating stripping, waxing, buffing, shampooing, and extractors required.
  • Prior experience completing housekeeping tasks is highly desirable.
  • Ability to use small tools for assembling furniture and equipment.
  • Ability to operate power equipment as related to housekeeping tasks.
  • Ability to carry material, equipment, and furnishings by physically lifting or through use of transporting devices such as dollies and carriers.
  • Valid Michigan driver's license with a satisfactory driving record required.
  • Good organizational skills for completing logs, reporting hours, filling out work orders, and other necessary reports.

This is a full-time position; hours are Monday - Friday, 4pm - 12:30am. The pay rate is $19.67/hour.
