Job/Internship Description

The Transportation Intern will gain knowledge and training within Seaboard Foods' transportation and transportation support departments. During their internship, interns will be exposed to all areas of Seaboard Foods' connected food system and will learn about the driver hiring process, scheduling, and vehicle registration. Transportation interns will have an opportunity to learn about Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and transportation safety, as well as become trained in proper animal handling procedures and Transportation Quality Assurance (TQA). The internship period will be 10 weeks in Guymon, Oklahoma. This individual will be expected to work in a team environment and work on several projects throughout the summer.

RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Gain exposure to several areas throughout the transportation department, including inner-company movements, feed haul, loadout crews, market haul, truck wash, and reclaim haul.
  • Learn to coordinate the driver hiring process, scheduling, and vehicle registration.
  • Understand the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and transportation safety, as well as become trained in proper animal handling procedures and Transportation Quality Assurance (TQA).
  • Maintain collaborative working relationship with supervisors, peers, subordinates, internal and external customers.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year university or college
  • Good problem-solving skills to reach the best possible solution to a problem.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people such as employees, managers, and senior management
  • Flexible and able to work on assigned weekends (Saturday/Sunday) and be on call at all times of the day and week, when assigned, to resolve any issues that arise.
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and ability to pass DOT physical and obtain medical card.
