About the Opportunity

The ability to work remotely within the United States may be available based on business need. This option is not available in the states of California, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Oregon or Washington at this time.

The Information Technology organization at FirstEnergy creates and maintains software solutions, and operates FirstEnergy data centers, service desks and voice/data networks.

As a participant in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development Program, you will be cultivating professional skills and performing professional level work at FirstEnergy. Each participant will receive on-the-job training, and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies. Summer Internships with FirstEnergy are full-time opportunities spanning 13 weeks. FirstEnergy offers paid internships to qualified students actively enrolled in an accredited university or college.

We have recently embarked on a Digital transformation journey where we are reimaging the way we work and serve our users. Our projects benefit the community by aiding in providing safe, reliable electricity to everyone:

  • Customer: create analytics to improve customer satisfaction along the customer journey for a lifetime as they move-in to a residence, pay their bill and move to new residences.

  • Transmission & Distribution: develop algorithms to detect asset failures, reduce outages and provide reliable electricity to customers.

  • Smart Meter: provide customers with the electric usage they need to make smart decisions about their home as well as reduce threats and theft in the electric system.

As a Scrum Master intern at FirstEnergy, you will work on an agile, diverse, and cross-functional team developing digital products. You will work with FirstEnergy's Scrum Masters to facilitate the development process and support teams in achieving their goals.

Examples of possible job duties and responsibilities of a Scrum Master intern:

  • Work with Scrum Masters to coach high performing teams developing analytical, journey, or automation products.

  • Support teams to define, implement, and track Agile performance metrics in development and product performance metrics upon deployment.

  • Develop dashboards and reports that bring visibility to project progress and performance.

  • Create and present materials to teach various aspects of the Agile development process.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled, full time, in a bachelor's degree program at an accredited university/college focusing on Computer Science, Mathematics, Business or other related disciplines.

  • Class Standing - Senior (Graduating in Fall 2023 or Spring 2024) or Junior (Graduating in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025).

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

  • Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future)

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge or interest in various Agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum, SAFe, etc.) and a desire to coach others and work collaboratively.

  • Experience with basic quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques, such as: cost-benefit analysis, business case development, statistics, or similar activities. Use of data visualization and reporting tools is a plus.

  • Experience or interest in technical development or business process analysis.

  • Passion for innovation and strong communications skills.

  • Proven team player, contributes to team goals, encourages, and supports team members

  • Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects

  • Organizational skills to prioritize and plan work, multi-task and meet schedules

  • Ability to work remotely, utilizing virtual technologies

  • Robust communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively participate on a team and in remote meetings and conference calls

  • Sound understanding of Microsoft Office line of products, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Strong technical writing skills
